    Vatican 2025: 550th anniversary of Michelangelo’s birth

    Dome of St. Peter’s Basilica, designed by Michelangelo, on which he worked until his death in 1564. Below it appears a detail of the vault of the Sistine Chapel, divided into sections by Michelangelo and decorated with frescoes for which he was responsible. On the left are the occasion of issue “michelagniolo”, the mintmark “R” of the Rome Mint, and the name “D. LONGO” of the designer. The issuing country “CITTÀ DEL VATICANO” is placed at the upper right edge. Below are Michelangelo’s year of birth “1475” and the year of issue “2025”.
