    Estonia 2019: 100 years University of Tartu

    The University of Tartu is the oldest university in Estonia. It was founded in 1632 by King Gustav II Adolf of Sweden in Dorpat, the city that is today called Tartu. Since Estonia’s independence from Russia in 1918-19, it has been called Tartu Ülikool (“Tartu University”) and is the first Estonian-speaking university in the world.
