    Vatican 2018: European Year of Cultural Heritage

    The image of the coin shows the Laocoon group. The sculpture is 1.84 m high and is made of white marble. It is located in the Pius-Clementine Museum, which is part of the Vatican Museums. The work was made by Hagesandros, Polydoros and Athanadoros from Rhodes. On the edge of the image you will see the theme “ANNO EUROPEO DEL PATRIMONIO CULTURAL”, top right the year “2018” and the relief of the Roman coin “R”. Under the motive is the issuing state “CITTA ‘DEL VATICOANO”. The twelve stars of the European flag are shown on the outer ring.
